SSF playing in the Fiddlers’ Tent

The Sydney Scottish Fiddlers are taking to the road for the Brigadoon Highland Gathering. Check out events page for rehearsal times for the gig, and performance details.

September ’17 tune David England’s Septuple Jig now posted

Head to our downloads page for a recording and sheet music (scroll down to the Recordings and Tunes sections respectively) of this month’s tune.  Once again I’ve included viola- and ‘cello-friendly versions.

It’s a tune I wrote for for one of our oldest members as a birthday present quite a few years ago.  Hope you like it.

August 2017

August ’17 tune The Raivlin Reel now available

Sheet music on our downloads page.  (Scroll down to the Tunes section.)  I’ve included versions with clefs friendly for viola and ‘cello players too, all in the one file.

It’s “rocking session tune” – known by tune players all over Australia and the world.

I haven’t put a recording up this time, as there are plenty of good recordings available online.  There are slow and medium tempo recordings by the composer Barbara McOwen on her website (do a page search for “Raivlin”) –– and a faster version by Hanneke Cassel here.

Enjoy!

Celtic Fiddle Ensemble Arrangements

Experienced arranger Graeme Webster has recently begun a project to write and distribute (free of charge) a set of arrangements of fiddle music for ensembles. The ensemble charts are for two fiddles, and a cello, with chords provided for comping instruments or re-orchestration.

The arrangements are free to download here for the next month, provided Graeme is acknowledged as the arranger.

Graeme plans to update the book with further arrangements, and release substantially more music every few months.

Audio files of many of these arrangements can be heard on Soundcloud. Search for Weaver MacFarlane.
